- Guys ... look at the "ribs" (don't know what else
to call those things) inside the fin that run perpendicular to
the fin surface. Notice how they appear sooted. Notice how the
sooting increases and becomes all black underneath the black
, crescent "chip" on the fin. What the hell is all
that black soot? Why is it more intense just under the chip?

- This is the lowest hinge point on the vert stab., where the
rudder position cable would run. Jay has previously noted the
sooting which Glenn has no clue what it is. Scroll down.

- Now, compare this picture 3 with picture 1. It might be a
lighting trick, but where are those "ribs"? Anyone
have a clue what all that sooting is?
