Rudder Reconstruction Picture Using Coast Guard Photos

A bright fella by the screen name of MUDMAN, assembled some of the rudder pictures the Coast Guard released to me into a whole image. Thanks to Arthur Doucette for making me aware of this. Two questions quickly arise from this knowledge of the rudder condition:  what led to the breakup of the rudder into three large pieces and when did it break away from the vertical stabilizer since they were recovered separately (600 feet distance)?  Feel free to forward your educated speculations to me at letters@usread.com
